Overview

The Trisuli River is Nepal's most accessible and popular white water rafting destination, offering the perfect introduction to Himalayan river adventures. Located just 3 hours from Kathmandu along the scenic Prithvi Highway, the Trisuli flows through a beautiful valley with terraced hillsides, traditional villages, and lush subtropical forests.

The river features exciting Class III-IV rapids that provide enough adrenaline for thrill-seekers while remaining manageable for beginners with no prior rafting experience. Named after the trident of Lord Shiva, the Trisuli combines adventure with cultural immersion — you'll pass ancient temples and observe village life along the riverbanks.

Whether you choose a half-day adventure or extend to a multi-day expedition with riverside camping, the Trisuli delivers an authentic Nepal experience that goes beyond simple sightseeing.

Best Time to Visit

Autumn (September-November): The best time for rafting on the Trisuli. Post-monsoon water levels are high enough for exciting rapids but not dangerously swollen. Clear skies offer stunning views of the surrounding hills, and temperatures are comfortable.

Spring (March-May): Another excellent season with warm weather and moderate water levels. The surrounding hills are green and blooming. Water is clearer than monsoon season.

Winter (December-February): Rafting continues with lower water levels and gentler rapids. Wetsuits provided to combat cooler water temperatures. Great for those seeking a calmer experience.

Monsoon (June-August): High water levels create very challenging conditions. Only experienced rafters should consider monsoon trips. Some sections may be closed for safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know how to swim?

Basic swimming ability is helpful but not strictly required. You'll wear a life jacket at all times, and guides are trained in swift water rescue. However, being comfortable in water enhances the experience.

Is rafting safe for beginners?

Yes, the Trisuli is ideal for first-time rafters. Class III-IV rapids are thrilling but manageable with proper guidance. Professional guides handle all technical aspects while you learn the basics.

What should I bring?

Bring swimwear/quick-dry clothes, sunscreen, sunglasses with a strap, a change of dry clothes, sandals that strap on (no flip-flops), and a waterproof camera if you have one. Leave valuables at your hotel.

Are multi-day trips available?

Yes! The Trisuli offers 2-day trips with riverside camping, and we can arrange expeditions on other rivers like the Bhote Koshi, Seti, or the legendary Sun Koshi for multi-day wilderness adventures.

Can I combine this with other activities?

Absolutely! Rafting pairs well with canyoning, bungee jumping at Kushma, or as part of a Kathmandu-Pokhara transfer (raft in the morning, drive to Pokhara in the afternoon).
