Khumbu — Home of the Sherpa & the World's Highest Peak
Mount Everest, known as Sagarmatha in Nepal and Chomolungma in Tibet, stands at 8,848.86 meters as officially measured in 2020—the highest point on Earth. The surrounding Khumbu region, home to the legendary Sherpa people, offers some of the world's most spectacular trekking opportunities through a landscape of soaring peaks, ancient monasteries, and vibrant mountain communities.
The Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, protects 1,148 square kilometers of dramatic mountain terrain. Within its boundaries lie four of the world's fourteen peaks exceeding 8,000 meters: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. The iconic pyramid of Ama Dablam (6,812m) is often considered the most beautiful mountain in the region.
The Sherpa people have called this harsh but beautiful land home for centuries, developing a unique culture deeply connected to the mountains. Their legendary mountaineering skills, warm hospitality, and vibrant Buddhist traditions make any journey to the Everest region as culturally rich as it is scenically spectacular.
Trekking
From the classic Everest Base Camp trek to more challenging circuits, the region offers adventures for various fitness levels.
The iconic trek to the foot of the world's highest mountain. Follow the footsteps of legendary mountaineers through Sherpa villages, past ancient monasteries, to the Khumbu Glacier.
A stunning alternative featuring turquoise glacial lakes and views of four 8,000m peaks from Gokyo Ri. Less crowded than the EBC route with equally spectacular scenery.
